You must have been hiding under a rock today not to have noticed that the new series of Doctor Who got its Cardiff launch with the premier of the first episode The Eleventh Hour, earlier this evening. Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, the production team including Piers Wenger and Steven Moffat were all present. Wenger also announced that Moffat would be writing the Christmas Special for 2010 and that Series 6 has been officially greenlit. Filming on the Special begins in July whilst filming on the current series is set for completion by the end of March.
Here's BBC News' entertainment reporter Lizo Mzimba interviewing Matt at the launch...
...and a report from BBC Wales regional news programme too.
Doctor Who returns to our screens on the 3rd April but according to the BBC Press Office is still unplaced in the schedule. The programme information for the first episode has also been released:
"The Doctor has regenerated into a brand-new man, but danger strikes before he can even recover, as Doctor Who returns for a new series. With the Tardis wrecked and the sonic screwdriver destroyed, the new Doctor has just 20 minutes to save the whole world – and only Amy Pond to help him."
We'll be seeing more trailers during the next week.
