David Tennant will complete his tenure as the Doctor at the end of 2009. The specials will be the last we see of him in the role. There'll be a new Doctor at the helm of the TARDIS in 2010 when Steven Moffat oversees Series 5. He made an emotional announcement at the National Television Awards tonight after winning the award for Best Actor. The programme also took the Best Drama award. Good to go out on a high, I think.

So it only remains for me to say...thanks David for the last three years and for the four specials in 2009. You should be proud of what will be a four year run. Go forward in everything you do, mate. And here's the acceptance speech and announcement from the NTAs.

Thanks to obituarybirthday on You Tube for the clip.

Here's the interview released by BBC News.
